ALEIX
NUÑEZ

Climate Change Analyst

Aleix's daily work focuses on environmental management, with one clear goal: reducing CO₂ emissions by 60% before 2030. He is currently working on projects involving the reuse of bottles and the capture and reuse of CO₂ produced during the fermentation of wine. He is also promoting reforestation projects in Catalonia and Chile, and implementing photovoltaic panels above vineyards and in viticulture, as part of the 'GO SOLARWINE' project.

Aleix Nuñez

- 65% of our energy comes from renewable sources.

- The Pacs del Penedès Winery generates nearly half of the energy it uses.

- 98.3% of our wine bottles do not exceed 420 grams, which contributes to reducing CO₂ emissions.

Nuria Mallen

NURIA
MALLEN

Environmental Manager

Water is an essential resource, and Núria is committed to promoting water circularity. She therefore focuses her professional efforts on developing water reuse projects, such as the treated water regeneration plant at Familia Torres's winery in Pacs del Penedès. She also oversees projects involving the collection of treated water and in-house purification at the Pacs del Penedès winery. Furthermore, she is involved in comprehensive waste management.

Núria Mallen

- We recover 48% of the water we treat.

- We reuse water for cleaning, cooling operations, and supplementary irrigation.

- We have reduced our water consumption by 22% since 2016.

Jordi Vidal

JORDI
VIDAL

DO Conca de Barberà Estate Manager

Jordi embodies the history of Familia Torres and understands better than anyone our main goal of caring for the land and the people who work it. The project he is currently working on involves integrating vineyards and forests to create landscapes resilient to climate change. To this end, we collaborate with local livestock farmers to control vegetation and reduce the risk of fires by using their herds. We adapt water ponds to protect wildlife and implement regenerative viticulture practices involving cover crops to enhance soil health and revive soil ecosystems. Projects such as 'SmartCrops 5.1', 'Regenera.cat', 'VITIBOSC' and 'VITIREGENERE' support these efforts.

Jordi Vidal

- 96% of our estate vineyards are organic, and half are regeneratively farmed.

- We collaborate with the Federació ADF Penedès Garraf, promoting sustainable forest management.

- We own 1,800 hectares of forest land which we strive to manage sustainably.

Mireia Torres

- More than 60 ancestral grape varieties have been discovered, six of which are of significant oenological interest due to their ability to adapt to climate change.

- We carry out microvinifications to study the oenological and sensory characteristics of these varieties.

- We achieved a 40% reduction in our carbon footprint per bottle in 2024 (compared to 2008) and are working with the goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2040..

OTHER PROJECTS

Projecte1

Regenerative Viticulture Association

In 2021, Familia Torres, alongside Clos Mogador, Can Feixes, Jean Leon and AgroAssessor, promoted the establishment of the Regenerative Viticulture Association (AVR) to encourage the adoption of this agricultural approach across Spain. The AVR provides a platform for winegrowers, winemakers, and experts to exchange knowledge through webinars and symposiums.
In 2023, the AVR collaborated with the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation to establish the international Regenerative Viticulture Alliance (RVA) certification scheme, audited by ECOCERT, which recognizes and certifies wines from regenerative vineyards.

Projecte2

The goal of becoming a net zero emissions winery by 2040

By 2024, Familia Torres had made significant progress towards its decarbonization goal, reducing its carbon footprint per bottle by 40% compared to 2008, covering the process from the vineyard to the consumer. According to Miguel Torres S.A.'s audited balance sheet, this reduction reaches almost 60% when considering direct emissions alone, representing a fundamental step towards the winery's decarbonization.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY: OUR COMMITMENT.

Almost twenty years ago, we embarked on a journey that extends far beyond wine: a journey of caring for the land and safeguarding the future. Because the land only comes alive when we care for it. This is why we are passionate about producing wine in harmony with the environment, as well as innovating through projects that address climate change and help create a greener, more sustainable world. We understand viticulture as a commitment to the source of our life: nature.

At Familia Torres, we are aware that sustainability is not only an environmental issue, but a social one too. We therefore have a responsibility to ensure the well-being of the environment, society, and our entire team.

Our wish is to contribute to the social and environmental improvement of our planet. This is the driving force that propels us day after day and pushes us to seek innovative answers to the challenges of the present and the future.
